Thank you! This is rich. I’m thankful for the questions and for experiencing the God who is bigger than my questions.

    Dr. Gafney,

This is a marvelous piece. It reminds me so much of the way my own seminary Old Testament professor, the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Abts Wright, taught me to read the scriptures.

I have a question: what is the RGT translation? I can’t find those initials on any list of translations, and I very much want to read the full translation of Job based on the line that you quote.

Thank you for your inspiring teaching.

Thank you. (and chuckling) I’m sure I said in the audio version, but I’ll put a note on the text version. The RGT is the Revised Gafney Translation. I translate every time I teach or preach. Thanks again. Best to you.

I like the idea of a Revised Gafney Translation. Shame that it’s not available for purchase.

Too much work. Especially on the parts that are not as well-used. One of the weaknesses of the Message – besides being a paraphrase. It would have been better if he ha just published the texts he worked with from the lectionary. It went quite far off the rails in many places in the Hebrew Bible.
