I am having a difficult time, believing myself to be egalitarian thinking but, having to navigate in a style of complimentarian church. Most churches in my area operate this way, there is a liberal church also but have no desire to go there. Do you have any words for me to help me function in my church?
Getting along in a place where you do not share the same values means that one of you will have to yield to some degree. So how deep is your commitment to egalitarianism? How much are you willing to submit to the dominant culture of your church to stay there? Are you willing to risk not fitting in, not being able to stay there? Are you committed enough to your beliefs to stand on them in the face of some risk? The question turns back to you. What do you really value and believe? What matters most?
